@Swe

Thanks for feedback!

**Some feedback:**

1. Good to hear that the Cable Lock function now work as intended.

2. Commercial Companies that have a contract with ChargeAmps do get an “business account” and from that they can without showing it for the user create a RFID to utilize in their integration. I don’t have that so I have to rely on the user to create a RFID on their own and then entering the same RFID in the App.

**On a more technical note:** To be able to do the Start/Stop that you and other wants for OCPP chargers the only way is to use API commands RemoteStart/RemoteStop and in the documentation from ChargeAmps it says that commands are useless without RFID. This is the same way as it have been implemented in HomeAssistant by another developer.

But with that said… It is also possible that ChargeAmps have changed the implementation so that the RemoteStart/RemoteStop doesn’t require RFID to be active.

1. Regarding your request. That totally make sense and I will add that to the ToDo list.

# ChargeAmps for Homey — New release v5.4.6

## **What’s new in 5.1.0 → 5.4.6**

Version **5.4.6** is the latest stable release after **5.1.0**. Below is an overview of what’s new, improved, and fixed — plus **step-by-step guides** for **dynamic electricity pricing via Flow** and **RFID setup** (especially important for OCPP chargers).

The app supports **AURA, DAWN, HALO, and LUNA**. You need an **API key** from ChargeAmps support before adding a charger. Login is done during **pairing** (no longer as a separate step in app settings).

* * *

## Summary: what’s new since 5.1.0?

### Energy & Homey integration

- **Smart charging** via Homey Energy (target power, scheduling).
- **Charge targets** : charge for a set amount of **kWh** , for a set **time** , or up to a set **cost** (requires an electricity price) — charging stops automatically when the target is reached.
- **Energy overview** for today, week, month, and year with **improved meter accuracy** (reconciled against the charger’s session total when a session ends).
- **Dashboard widget** with start/stop, current slider, quick charge targets (+1h/+2h/+4h), and optional **live session cost** while charging.
- **Dynamic electricity price** via Flow (see guide below) or a **manual fallback price** in device settings.
- Optional **weekly energy summary** on the timeline and a **charge-complete notification**.

### Device experience

- **Reorganised device panel** (logical order: charging state, power, energy, status, kWh, current limit, lights, RFID, totals, per-phase data).
- **Per-phase current and voltage** while charging.
- **Now/Last charged** as graphable kWh sensors (Insights).
- **Identify** — flashes the LED ring so you can find the right charger.
- **Diagnostics** : firmware, protocol ( **CAPI** or **OCPP** ), session stats, and combined warnings (offline, stale data, read-only, fault).
- New **Electricity price** tile on the device shows the price currently in effect.

### Flow & reliability

- Many new **triggers, conditions, and actions** (connection, charging, RFID, charge targets, HALO ground light/outlet, and more).
- The **“Charging completed”** Flow card now fires **reliably** with tokens for **energy, duration, minutes, RFID, and cost**.
- Flows that control a charger now affect **the device you picked** — even when you own several chargers of the same model (fixed in 5.1.0).
- **AURA (dual outlet)**: independent sessions, charge targets, and start/stop per outlet.

### OCPP vs CAPI (important from 5.4.6)

Charging control is now clearly split by protocol (see **Diagnostics** on the device):

| | **CAPI** | **OCPP** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **On/Off (port)** | Turns the port on/off | Enables/disables the port |
| **Start/Stop charging** (Energy tab, widget, Flow, charge targets) | Same as port on/off | Starts/stops the **charging session** via remote start/stop — **the port can stay on** |

On OCPP, use **Start/Stop charging** to pause charging without the port going unavailable.

### Other improvements and fixes (brief)

- **5.1.0** : Reliable start/stop, automatic re-login when the API token expires, charger marked unavailable only on API/network errors (not just because the cloud reports offline), energy meter can no longer run backwards, shared codebase for all models.
- **5.4.0** : More accurate energy totals, reliable “Charging completed”, dynamic electricity price, cost-based charge targets.
- **5.4.1–5.4.3** : HALO fixes (stale connector data, outlet tiles hidden when the model has no 230 V outlet), electricity price and cost shown with three decimal places.
- **5.4.5** : Cable lock works when the charger reports maxCurrent 0 while idle; optional **Remote start RFID** in device settings.
- **5.4.6** : AURA widget current limit follows installation current; OCPP **RFID lock stays on** after session stop if you already had it enabled (prevents unwanted plug-and-charge).

## Guide: Dynamic electricity price via Flow

With dynamic pricing, the app calculates session cost **time-exactly** — each kWh is priced at the rate in effect when it was charged. This shows in the **widget** , the **Electricity price** tile on the device, and the **cost token** on the **“Charging completed”** Flow card.

### Step 1 — Optional manual fallback price

1. Open the charger → **Settings** (gear icon).
2. Under **Electricity price (per kWh)**, enter e.g. `0.25` (your currency per kWh).
3. This is used when no dynamic price is active. Leave **0** if you only want to use Flow.

### Step 2 — Flow that updates the price

Create a Flow (or one Flow per charger if you want different prices):

**When…**
The price changes in your electricity price app — e.g. **Tibber** , **Power by the Hour** , or any app with a trigger that provides the **current price** (often called something like _“Price changed”_).

**Then…**
**ChargeAmps** → **Set price per kWh to** _[price from trigger]_

- Pick the **correct charger** in the list (repeat for each charger you want the price to apply to).
- In the price field: select the **tag/token** from the price trigger (not a hard-coded value, if you want it to follow spot prices).

**Tips:**

- Repeat the action for **each ChargeAmps device** if you have multiple chargers.
- The dynamic price **expires after 6 hours** without a refresh — make sure your price app (or a scheduled Flow) updates it regularly, e.g. every hour.
- While dynamic pricing is active, it **overrides** the manual price. When it expires, the app falls back to the manual price (if you set one).

### Step 3 — Verify it’s working

- The **Electricity price** tile on the device should show the current value (not 0).
- While charging, the **widget** can show live cost (if dynamic or manual price is set).
- After a completed session, the **“Charging completed”** Flow card provides a **cost** token.

### Cost-based charge targets

The Flow action **“Charge for a set amount of money, then stop”** requires an electricity price (dynamic via Flow or manual in settings).

* * *

## Guide: RFID — two different things

It’s easy to confuse these:

### A) RFID lock on the charger (physical access)

This controls whether the charger requires an RFID tag to charge (plug-and-charge on/off).

**Via the device panel:** the **RFID** on/off button.
**Via Flow:** _Turn on RFID_ / _Turn off RFID_, or the condition _RFID is on/off_.

Use this if you want to **lock** the charger so only authorised tags can charge.

### B) RFID for OCPP start/stop from Homey (important!)

If your charger runs **OCPP** (shown under **Diagnostics** , not CAPI), Homey needs a **registered RFID tag** to start/stop charging sessions via Energy, the widget, Flow, or charge targets.

**Step 1 — Register the tag with ChargeAmps**

1. Log in to the [ChargeAmps User Portal](https://my.charge.space/userapp/login).
2. Go to **Profile → RFID Tags**.
3. Add your tag. It must be **hexadecimal** , **8 characters** (4 bytes), e.g. `1A2B3C4D`.

**Step 2 — Enter the same tag in Homey**

1. Open the charger → **Settings**.
2. Field **RFID for start/stop charging (OCPP)** (`remoteStartRfid`).
3. Enter the **exact same hex value** as in the portal (no spaces).

**Step 3 — Use Start/Stop (not just On/Off)**
On OCPP: use **Start/Stop charging** in Energy, the widget, or Flow (_Turn on charging_ / _Turn off charging_) to control the session while the port can stay on.

**If you don’t enter your own tag:** the app may use a built-in virtual tag for session start. This **may** work but is **not guaranteed** in all environments — **your own tag from the portal is strongly recommended**.

**From 5.4.6:** if you already had **RFID lock on** before Homey started a session, the lock **stays on** after session stop (so the car doesn’t start charging unexpectedly). If RFID was **off** , the app only enables it temporarily for the session and turns it off again after stop.

### CAPI chargers

For **CAPI** , the OCPP remote-start setting does not apply the same way — start/stop maps to port on/off. RFID lock is still controlled via the panel or Flow.

* * *

## Upgrading from 5.1.0

- **No re-pairing** is normally required.
- Check **Diagnostics → Protocol** (CAPI or OCPP) so you use the right start/stop behaviour.
- OCPP users: set **Remote start RFID** and test start/stop from the widget.
- For cost estimates: set a manual price and/or create a Flow for dynamic pricing.
- Please report feedback in this thread if something doesn’t behave as expected — include model (HALO/DAWN/…), protocol (CAPI/OCPP), and app version.

* * *

_Thanks for using ChargeAmps for Homey!_

@Swe Think I solved the request you had. In next release of the App (v5.4.7) there will be a configuration item on the Charger Device where you can choose the behaviour of the Charger Device Icon, you will be able to choose the following action:

- Open unit with long press (no activity when pressed)
- Start/Stop Charging
- Charging Port On/Off (todays behaviour)

Maybe a bit “marketing” strong statement 🙂 party built on how Homey describes it.

You can control charging by time, kWh or Cost in flows which are reflected in Homey Energy. Pure Homey smart charging control in Energy Panel isn’t really available (not yet at least, hopefully it will come).

But with my App and some well configured Flows and collaboration with other Apps (such as ‘Power by the hour’) you can achieve really smart charging and charge when cost is low or other smart options.

**Homey Energy smart charging** means Homey can _control_ your charger when you want it to — but you (or your automations) decide _when_ and _how_. Homey Energy provides the data (usage, solar, prices) and Flow tools; **Flows or manual control** turn that into actual charging behaviour. The ChargeAmps app lets Homey set charging power and start/stop when **Power control** is set to **Homey**. It does not run price or solar optimisation on its own.

@Swe

A new test version (version 5.4.7) has now been released and it includes a new setting in the ChargeAmps device to control what happens when you click on the device icon with three options:

**Device icon tap**

1. **Open device only**
2. **Start/stop charging**
3. **Turn port on/off** _(default)_

Option 1 doesn’t actually open the device, it gives you a message that you need to long click the device to open it.

(Additional information: Homey are also implementing a solution around this which will be available in coming releases of their Apps for Apple & Android devices. )

An additional TEST version has been published, Version 5.4.8

**News in this release:**
In my attempt to control Start/Stop of charging in OCPP chargers I implemented it in accordance with ChargeAmps documentation. In their documentation it says that the Start/Stop API commands are more or less useless without active RFID.

I still haven’t received any crystal clear feedback from any user yet if it work or not, but this version includes a new setting in the device.

Today RFID is enabled before Start command and then disabled after Stop command. The Start/Stop commands themselves contains RFID information (either built in or user configured).

The new settings in this release gives the user an option if this enable/disable of RFID should be performed or not.

Please note that this setting might disappear in later releases if it becomes clear that enable/disable of RFID are required to control Start/Stop of charging in OCPP chargers. I added this option now to give users a chance to test different options/solutions.

**TEST version releases:** Current version 5.5.6

App is going through bugg cleaning process and TEST version 5.5.0 → 5.5.6 contains approximately a total of 130-140 different fixes. A vast majority of them are behind the scene fixes and shouldn’t be noticed/visible, just make the App more stable.

No new functionality will be added in 5.5.X releases, this is only a code improvements and bug fixing branch. New function will come later in version 5.6 or higher.

## **Request:**

### I would highly appreciate some user feedback if the OCPP Start/Stop charging works now or not.

**RFID for OCPP start/stop from Homey (important!)**

If your charger runs **OCPP** (shown under **Diagnostics** , not CAPI), Homey needs a **registered RFID tag** to start/stop charging sessions.

2. Field **RFID for start/stop charging (OCPP)**.
3. Enter the **exact same hex value** as in the portal (no spaces).

**Step 3 — Use Start/Stop (not just On/Off)**
Use **Start/Stop charging** in the App or use Flow cards (_Turn on charging_ / _Turn off charging_) to control the session while the port can stay on.

**If you don’t enter your own tag:** the app will try to use a built-in defult tag for session start/stop. This **may** work but is **not guaranteed** as the tagg isn’t registered in ChargeAmps portal — **your own tag from the portal is strongly recommended**.

Tested with my Charge Amps Halo using OCPP.

I created a virtual RFID ID, registered the same 8-character hex value in the Charge Amps portal and in the Homey app. Start/Stop charging is now working correctly.

Keep up the good work! 🙂

@Simon_Valkaer

That is fantastic news, thank you **so much** for your effort with testing this!!

Just for my verification, could you please inform me of the following:

- Are you running the latest beta version (5.5.6) or latest release version (5.4.8)?
- In the settings for your HALO in Homey, is the option “Activate RFID-lock at start/stop of charging (OCPP)” on or off?

Thank in advance

Latest version (5.5.8) is now pushed for publication.

Have not received any error reports or problems on the current Test rRelease (5.5.6) which to me says that it at least is working fairly ok.

So 5.5.8 will as soon as it has been validated by Homey be the new Stable Version.

@Simon_Valkaer Thank you for your testing and verifications

Version 5.5.9 is now pushed for publication.

Thanks to ‘Kennet Larsen’ for the clear report — that helped a lot.
While the car stays plugged and charging is suspended by the EV, ChargeAmps can briefly report “Available” even though nothing really changed. The app treated that as unplug + reconnect, so the “Car connected” trigger fired again.
That’s fixed in this release: a one-off Available blip is ignored; only a confirmed disconnect counts. Real unplug may take ~some extra time (~10–15 s).

Many thanks for all the hard work with the app, appreciated.

However I have som issues now that I’m not able to resolve, any guidance appreciated.

App version 5.5.9, Halo charger, OCPP 1.6. I still have the original CA tag so I’ve entered that value in the CA portal (it’s not HEX however, it’s 14 digits long) and as well in Homey, I also have RFID set to ON.

The charger doesn’t start when plugging in the car which is what I want, I can use the CA tag to start charging at the charger so I know the RFID number is correct set up in CA portal. But for the moment I’m not able to use the app at all to start charging, not via your app nor using a flow. It’s takes the command but then stops the charging some seconds later.

Any ideas? Any tests I can do, I haven’t restarted by reinstalling everything yet.

@MasseGbg

Open the HALO device in Homey, go to its settings, set **Debug Level** to **Full** , and save the settings.

1. Temporarily disable any Flows, smart-charging functions, or charge targets that could control the charger.

2. Start charging once directly from the HALO device in Homey.

3. If it still stops, disable **“Enable RFID lock for session start/stop (OCPP)”** in the HALO device settings. Do not disable the charger’s normal RFID lock. Try starting again.

4. Immediately after reproducing the problem, send a diagnostics report (This is time senitive as the log fills up quickly and in Diagnostic reports I can only see what happend shortly before the Diag report was sent):

Problem resolved.

I believe it was all on my side:

1. I hadn’t noticed there was a special trigger for the HALO charger further down in the list, I had used the ‘Starta laddning’ but should have used the HALO specific one ‘Slå på laddning’.
2. I opened the HALO case to have a look and found that the cable from the wifi chip was not attached to the outer case (which is the wifi antenna) any longer so had extremely poor wifi coverage.

It all works fine now, just one minor issue left that I’m sure I will figure out soon:

- I start a charging session so that the car charges.
- Pause the charging using the Stop command.
- Then when trying to Start later using a flow it will not start, it will only start using the Start command.

I am also using Lan. The charger is online, working fine using its own app but in homey I encountered this problem. Restarted homey and the app.

update:

I have also removed the charge amps app and tried to add the charger again. I can login on charge amps admin page, nothing wrong with my credentials. Could it be my api that expierd? Refues to take any credentials:-(

It was my api that expired.
