> Weird .. battery is updating faster then location

That’s down to Apple and iCloud. It has always been like this, and is the same through other ecosystems like Life360 for example, that iCloud doesn’t update all details at the same time. Sometimes it just updates the location, other times just the battery. I think they just use a best effort update on each of the stats, and also possibly a minimum change before it is updated.

Martijn may know more. But this isn’t a fault with the app or Homey.

The accounts on iCloud are request rate limited, if you exceed whatever their limit is set at, your account gets locked. I have had this happen to my account a couple of times. It is fairly standard practice with internet services to protect the servers from overloading, DoS attacks, and give all users a fair chance at connecting. Having maintained web services for work, I am aware of and have worked with this. I reduced my server request interval to 2 minutes, and when I leave home it reduces a lot more (I think I set it to 30 minutes) and I reduced my calendar sync from every 5 minutes to 10, and this has made mine pretty solid. The only time I’ve run in to problems since is when my internet went down, when it came back the flood of requests blocked me again. But the latest app version seems to have solved that, and when my internet blipped for about 20 minutes the other night at 1am, it came back without problems.

Well it does not make sense.

My wife’s iPhone updates every minute with no issue in account locking. Also she updates every minute while my last update updated my location 2 hours ago ( using same homey app with 60 second intervals)

Why is my account locked ( never was locked even if i updated every 5 seconds with no issue for months ) … and my wife’s account … using the same 60 seconds interval is not locked in the same period. We should have had the same login amounts ( roughly) in the same period using the same homey app and its settings

Also Now the app 1.8.0 is improved with longer used sessions … but now i am locked … and never before with shorter sessions and 5 seconds intervalls

Does your iCloud account get used for anything else, or sync’d with any other devices?

Does the email address you use for iCloud authentication receive a lot of spam email in comparison to your wife’s? This could indicate a potential for your email address being possibly compromised, that could result in bogus requests to your iCloud account, bumping up your number of requests.

EDIT: the bogus requests wouldn’t necessarily need to successfully authenticate for them to count against your request count, that all depends how Apple’s server/firewall security is configured. Which only Apple knows.

There are many different reasons this could be happening to your account and not your wife’s. But if your wife’s iCloud account is syncing okay, that would suggest it’s not the app malfunctioning, but more likely something peculiar to your iCloud account.

Not devices that are on or used much. A mac .. but i use that 2 times a week for a dew mins . And we BOTH have an apple watch and we do not use apple mail ( hormail and my provider only )

What i find strange and can not understand . Hope you can answer.

Why is mine not updated for 30 mins and my wife’s iphone gets updated every minute despite we both use the same homey app/ app and settings ( 60 sec interval ) . We are both at home

I even just removed and added my device .. to no solution. Mine did not update for 16 mins anD my wife stays at 1 min intervals

Any clue

I think you may have misunderstood me there. I didn’t mean Apple mail, but rather the email address you use as your iCloud username (presumably either your hotmail or provider email address).
If that email address receives lots of spam, it’s probably because it’s been in a data breach or sold by a data broker and a bot may be using it to probe iCloud logins.

And there could be a million different reasons for the differences between yours and your wife’s iPhones updating with different frequencies to iCloud. But that has nothing to do with this app or Homey. It would either be Apple iCloud, or your physical device. Do you have cases on your iPhones, and if so are they different (some cases can impact signal). Are the settings for WiFi, mobile data, location services, FindMy etc identical between the 2 iPhones. Do you leave your iPhones in the same location at home, as that could have a great deal of impact on signal, both satellite GPS, 4G, and WiFi.

That’s just the things I can think of off the top of my head… it’s a start for things to look in to/try.

Nope same cases different color. Tech woven apple cases .. 17 pro max for me .. wife has the 18 pro max. Few days ago SAME behaviour when she still had her old 14 pro

But the interval is the time the homey app is Pinging with my icloud account right?

So every 60 secs it checking my location and my wife’s . location. That is what the app does right ? The time below ( 40 minutes in my case ) means the APP is checking for data but if its at 40 mins … it did not check for 40 mins right ?

When i open the actual apple find my app i see my location move a couple of meters a few times per minute. Also with my wife’s phone .. same behaviour . So signals are working fine .. and the coords slightly move

@martijnpoppen … see error report

> But the interval is the time the homey app is Pinging with my icloud account right?

Yes, but that doesn’t mean that iCloud responds, or responds but with only updates for some but not all data points. Mine has been working pretty rock solid since Martijn’s last app update. But when I watch it like hawk it updates every 2 minutes like it is set to 9 times out of 10. But out of those 9 times, 8 of them might only be my distance from Homey in meters, and/or the battery %.

And this depends on how often your iPhone updates iCloud, how often iCloud servers update their stats, and how often Homey is able to establish a successful connection with the iCloud servers and what data points iCloud responds with.

You have to remember this is not a mm perfect GPS tracking system. This is multiple different devices from multiple different ecosystems all trying to keep various data points updated over the internet from GPS data gathered from multiple satellites flying vast distances above earth at approximately 17,000 mph to stay in orbit.

> [@Dennis\_H74](#):

> When i open the actual apple find my app i see my location move a couple of meters a few times per minute.

Yes, but do you think Apple are going to provide their data reliably to third parties at the same frequency as their own systems that they want to sell you for uber bucks.

If any of the data points are updating at the interval you specify (or at least 80-90% of the time) then the app is working. If iCloud don’t update all your data points with the same frequency then some of the data the app receives is likely to be stale.

Nah .. now the story is getting more and more like a conspiracy 🤣

If apple is sensing and updating i moved 0.1 mile .. then the meters are known and updated also … but you state apple intentionally does not update icloud miles and meters and KM for third party apps at same interval and data sets are incomplete or randomy variables are updated ?

And again … it worked for me for years … then issues .. martijn updated .. worked for weeks … and now since 2 days i have issues.

Or does apple also make random issues to annoy customers ?

Look below .. my wife distance ALL update at the same time . Before the second it showed 3 TIMES “2 minutes “

Ans sure that these is a few mins differnce ok .. but with me there is hours between miles and km

and couple of mins later ALL show 2 mins

@Dennis_H74 the distance from Homey is calculated on Homey itself with the Haversine formula and then rounded. So it doesn’t update if the phone moves 0.1 meter that will be just rounded off. Also while 0.1 meter can be in any direction haversime calculates “as the crow flies”

So it will not have the same update interval as the 2 other values.

Btw according to you report the data that updates is only the battery. ICloud is not providing an updated Lat/Lon So you see only your battery updates.

Next to that you said due to the update it broke, but you are not on the test version, you’re still using 1.8.0 so can’t be that

@martijnpoppen

Check my previous post last screenshots. My wife’s phone is updating in short intervals with all 3 distance values updating at the SAME time…. While mine is showing 3 different time stamps.

That shows that if one value changes … all values change ( and that logical )

It’s messed up for me since 1.8.0 on the 24th of August …. Since THAT update ( reported immediately after that went live … check above )

You want me to try 1.9.0 ??

Another example All 3 distance values at SAME time with my wife

This is perfectly normal operation. When it updates, it only updates the values that change. And due to all the reasons above that Martijn and I have tried to explain, not all the values change constantly.

@Dennis_H74 The only report I can find about that is this one: [[APP][Pro] Apple Find My - #716 by Dennis\_H74](https://community.homey.app/t/app-pro-apple-find-my/114491/716)

There you said the issue was on the test version before you installed 1.8.0, and that you’d send a report if it happened again. The next report I got was on Sep 24.

I also want to say something about the tone. I build and maintain this app voluntarily, in my own time. I explained what your report shows and how the distance is calculated, and you respond with caps and “check above” as if I haven’t. Drako takes the time to help you, and his explanation gets called a conspiracy. That’s not how I want to be spoken to. Please keep it respectful, otherwise I’ll stop responding.

About 1,200 people use this app, and you’re the only one reporting this issue. Your wife’s account on the same app works fine too. Your report shows iCloud isn’t sending new location data for your account. If you want to continue, install 1.9.0 (test) and send a report as soon as it stops updating. Then I’ll look into it.

@martijnpoppen

Sorry if my tone is upsetting you. That is completely not my intention . And again .. sorry if i did upset

I use caps to try to make things clear. That is my way of typing .. not meant as shouting at all ( normally i would write “NOT meant as shouting at all”

I used a smiley on the conspiracy remark.. this was also not meant to insult but more as a joke since I understood someone told me apple did intentionally give partial info to 3rd party apps.

I am just trying to understand whats happening and perhaps i am not understanding both your explanations.

I appreciate BOTH your time on this .. i did test and helped out to improve your great app before … with no issues and i think I responded the same way back then as i did now.

Lets leave it .

Will do

Since we are friends again 🥳🤪 i still would like to try to understand the both of you ( if tired on the matter no worries i do understand)

Perhaps the below is more clear in why i am so confused.

So if my GPS position moves it updates the distance. Clear and that is exactly what i expect 👍

If my KM updated 5 mins ago because my GPS location did move slightly …. Why does my meter stay at “ 1 hour ago”

But If my GPS did not move … why did KM update in the first place ?

In what part of this issue this is for example caused by a bad GPS signal or a cover.

If for example a GPS signal is bad and my phone ends up in alaska … all distances should be updated against the homey position . Or if its so bad i get no signal and nothing updates .. none of the distances would update

Again this is just for my interest because i would like to understand. If u do not have time or tired of it .. i understand and no hard feelings at all !

Sorry, but I’m tapping out at this point. Far too stressful.

Have you tried googling or asking ChatGPT any of your questions about this. Although I’ve worked in IT and networking for 30 years, a lot of the knowledge I have gained has been through internet research via these methods and watching countless hours of YouTube videos on how things like GPS work. And to be perfectly frank with you, from all my time working in IT, the biggest thing I learned, not even the best IT nerds can remember it all or keep up with the speed of change in technology… and the only difference between an IT nerd and a user, is how good they are at googling. And never take just one source as gospel, as web sites are created by people who can make mistakes 😁
