Doesn’t work on Homey SHS installed on Proxmox. The app crashes immediately on startup.

Python apps only work if you run the container in privileged mode. See one of the comments further up.

I installed everything exactly as described in the official guide. What should I do now? Should I delete everything and reinstall it, or is there a way to make the required changes so the app will work?

My Homey SHS is installed using the official Proxmox installer. The LXC is already privileged (unprivileged: 0), with nesting=1 and keyctl=1, and docker inspect homey-shs --format ‘{{.HostConfig.Privileged}}’ returns true. Despite this, Python apps still fail with Error: Could not mount /python : 32. Is there any other privilege or capability required?

Since I’m not running Homey SHS or Proxmox I don’t have any expertise related to this. As this is not really a problem with this app specifically but with all Python apps on your setup, I can only again reference the fix Claude suggested me. Otherwise I would advise you to open a topic in the community on how to change this after the fact or why python is not working for you.

> [@staeff](#):

> Fix: run SHS in a privileged container — on Proxmox, recreate/restore the LXC as privileged (the community interactive installer has a privileged option); or use Athom’s official Docker image, which already runs privileged: true. After that, installed Python apps start normally.

**Solved: “Could not mount /python : 32” with Homey SHS on Proxmox/LXC**

I had the same issue with the `dev.schweiger.echo` app constantly crashing with `Could not mount /python : 32`.

The solution was to recreate the Homey SHS Docker container with:

```auto
--privileged
--security-opt seccomp=unconfined
--security-opt label=disable
```

The important part was `seccomp=unconfined`. After adding it, `/python` mounted correctly and the Echo app started normally.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem!

I assume same applies as for proxmox. You need proper permissions set on the container for running python homey apps. Nothing to do with this application in particular. So try to search the forum or open a topic on your own if there is nothing about your specific setup yet.

Hello 👋🏼

I recently discovered this app, and have been creating a number of advanced flows around home presence and time of day/ambient light, among others.

I was wondering if it would be possible to add some additional functionality to flow Then action cards.

1. Then cards to enable and disable Do Not Disturb on the Echo devices (so instead of having to set up fixed time schedules on each Echo, you could create a flow that does it dynamically depending on your sleep/awake and home/away presence).

2. Then cards to turn off and on the screen on Echo Show and Spot devices. To save energy turn the screens off when away, and when asleep turn off all but the bedroom Echo Spot (which leads to my final suggestion)

3. Then card to change the screen brightness from 1 to 10, so you can set the screen to dim when you go to sleep, and bright in the morning.

When adding my Echo devices around my house (being disabled I kind of rely on them and my home automations, they help me a great deal) all of my Echo shows and spots had a depiction of them as the device icon, except for my Echo Show 15 in my kitchen, that just had a generic Alexa logo. Is there a reason for this?

I hope it is okay to make such suggestions for additional functionality like this on here. And I’m happy to be a guinea pig for any testing and reporting back.

Your consideration, time and effort on this app are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I think the API for the first point exists so I can try to look into that, but for the other 2 I’m not certain that this can be controlled externally. You can always try to setup a routine in Alexa btw and trigger that instead or directly use the command action card with something like “Dim the screen brightness”.

I presumed that it was for at least some devices (like the Echo Spot and Echo Show 5) because the old Alexa app on Homey (which appears to not be getting updates or supported anymore, and has authentication bugs) is able to do all 3. Unfortunately my Homey Pro 2026 doesn’t have the resources to run both apps simultaneously, and needs regular rebooting to keep it working as it is. I switched to your app because it is way more stable, and so far has been rock solid. Thank you for a great app!

I pushed a new [test version 2.1.0](https://homey.app/en-at/app/dev.schweiger.echo/Amazon-Echo/test/) that adds the ability for dnd, screen brightness and turning the screen on/off. Since I don’t have a device with a screen I wasn’t able to test the later two. The underlying library also does not support it so I had to backport some code from another library. If this turns out to not work I will remove the functionality and leave it for somebody with proper test devices to implement it.

I will install and start testing it today, and let you know how I get on. Thank you so much for this, it is greatly appreciated. You are a legend sir, for implementing this so quickly, I am equal parts impressed and amazed. (I’ve worked in IT 30 years and still don’t seem to be able to get much beyond simple shell scripts as far as coding goes… I miss Cobol and Pascal ha ha 🤣)

EDIT: I have tested the new device card controls for DND, screen, and brightness on my Echo Spots, Show 5, Show 8, and Show 15 (the last 2 only support the DND function, cos Amazon are weird like that, not supporting the screen functions on their biggest screen devices 🙄🤣) And they all appear to work perfectly well. Thank you.

Once I have had chance to sort all my Advanced Flows out and test them, I will update again.

Hi @staeff

Just jumping in here.

Had asked a while ago if you could extend this app to other non-Echo Amazon devices like Fire Tablets. - What are your thoughts about this?

I second this query. I have a Fire max 11 tablet that I am currently running the Homey app with and kiosk mode Dashboard. And it would be nice to be able to add this with similar functionality to the Echo devices.

(Side note: the Fire tablet runs the Homey app and Dashboard a hell of a lot better than the Shelly Wall Display XL that I bought specifically to do this task.)

@Drako74 @4x4_Pete The honest answer is, it’s unlikely to happen from my side. I don’t own any Fire tablets, and the whole reason I limited the scope to Echos in the first place is that I simply can’t provide support for the hundreds or thousands of different devices out there that talk to Alexa in some form. Without hardware to test against, anything I’d add would be guesswork and every crash report would land in my lap anyway.

That said, I’m not opposed to the functionality existing. If someone wants to dig into it themselves, you’re very welcome to fork the app. A PR would be fine too if it’s small and self-contained, but I want to be upfront that I’d end up being the one fielding questions about hardware I can’t test or debug, and I’d rather not be the guy who has to keep saying “sorry, no idea”. The code is open, so anyone is very welcome to run with it.

@staeff

Appreciate the honest reply dude, and totally understand.

Thanks for adding the other functionality though, it’s been working perfectly so far. And unlike the other Alexa app, this one is solid stable, with no authentication issues at all. So I count that as a major win, and mahoosively grateful for it, thank you 😊

Unfortunately my IT skills lay mostly with hardware and networking, not very good at coding, or I might have accepted the challenge. I do appreciate yours, and others in the Homey community, coding skills and abilities with it taking me all day and a crazy amount of Googling just to get a small simple script to grab some stats from an IMAP mailbox working 🤣

So again, thank you for the excellent additions you did, and all my Echo Shows and Spots say thank you too 👍

Hi everyone,

First i want to thanks @staeff for this nice and stable app 🙂
Connexion is easy and working well !

![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/d/f/dfc2892fc67c51ef3408c6f541a3db3379f9f0ea.png)

I was using the other Alexa app to run routine created in Alexa on Homey Pro. It was working pretty well (except frequent log off and disconnection).

With this new app, when i want to run a routine with the corresponding card, the list of existing routine is empty. I disconnect and reconnect, remove et reinstall Eco, create new routines, but nothing seems to work and upload routines existing in Alexa to Homey.

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex025/uploads/athom/original/3X/2/2/2284646beffc2608ecf0092bf88dba4f07287f9e.png)

Do I miss something or any action is needed to upload them ?

Thanks
Jérémy
